Pucusana comes from the Quechua words puku and sana, which together mean “blower”. It is named this way because the place has strong air currents, as it is a bay open on one side and covered by two islands on the other.
It is a district located to the south of Lima, which began to be populated in 1920 with the construction of the first houses and the arrival of the first families. It was created by Law 9782, issued on January 22, 1943, and in 1950 Pucusana officially became one of the districts of the province of Lima. It covers an area of almost 40 km2, bordered to the north by the district of Santa María del Mar and to the east by the province of Cañete.

Today, the good infrastructure that has been developed and the great tourist attractions it offers make Pucusana a popular tourist destination near the center of the capital, highlighting its beaches, landscapes, hotels, marine fauna, gastronomy, and adventure sports.
When visiting this district, you can take a boat ride along the coast, one of the most popular activities for those who come to Pucusana. Here, you can enjoy the beauty of beaches such as La Culebritas Beach, Las Ninfas Beach, Naplo Beach, La Yesera Beach, La Honda Beach, Pelícanos Beach, La Tiza Beach, and La Quipa Beach.
One of the most visited attractions is the famous Widow's Cut, a geographical feature where the sea enters between the coastal hills. Popularly known as the Devil's Mouth, its official name is El Anterio. In the same area, you can also find the Corte waterfall, a 13-meter drop into the sea.

Pucusana is located in the province and department of Lima, at kilometer 60 of the Pan-American Highway South.

The average annual temperature is 17°C. The average maximum in summer can reach 32°C and the minimum 11°C in winter.
How to Get to Pucusana
To get there from the center of the capital, you have to take buses heading south. The most popular stops are on Canada Avenue with Circunvalación, Benavides Bridge, and Atocongo Bridge. You should get off at the Pucusana bridge and then take the collective taxis that go towards Lima Avenue, which is 2 blocks from the Main Square.

Pucusana Beach: The beach in Pucusana has calm waters and a large presence of algae. Boat rides are a popular activity here.
Las Ninfas Beach: Located near the fishing terminal, the calm waters make it perfect for swimming and diving.
Naplo Beach: Ideal for water sports such as water skiing, regattas, jet skiing, among others.
La Isla: Known as the Galápagos Island due to the large number of turtles found there. It is an exclusive area with luxurious and unique buildings like the “Boat House”. Sea lions can be found in the back of the island.
Widow's Cut: Also known as the Devil's Mouth, this is the main attraction in the area. It has a 50-meter opening where the waves pass through, creating a loud noise.
Christ's Face: Located behind the Widow's Cut, it is named for its shape resembling the face of Christ.

Events
We recommend visiting Pucusana during its festive week in January; the Pelicans Regatta (sailboat race) held in February, and the Feast of San Pedro on June 29, where a procession takes place by the sea.
