Huanano is a stone construction, located in the high area on the upper slope of the hill in San Jerónimo de Surco. Here you can also find the Huanano waterfall, one of the main attractions of this area in Lima.

The Huanano waterfall is a wonderful waterfall, over 35 meters high. Among the most practiced adventure sports is trekking, which is done with the waterfall as the objective. Along the way, you pass by the archaeological remains of Huanano, a set of 69 stone buildings with cave-like shapes and underground passages, which belonged to the Huarpa culture from Ayacucho. Another sport that is also done at the same waterfall is rappelling, descending over 30 meters down one side of it.

The waterfall and archaeological remains of Huanano are located in the district of San Jerónimo de Surco, in the province of Huarochirí.

Climate and Temperature

The climate here is characterized as very warm between the months of April and November, while December to March is the rainy season. The area has a minimum temperature of 10°C and a maximum of 28°C.

Huanano has an altitude of just over 2000 meters above sea level.

How to Get to Huanano

To get to Huanano, the first step is to reach the district of San Jerónimo de Surco. To do this, you must take a bus from the "Lima - Chosica" line, preferably at stops such as: Paseo Colón, Vía Expresa Grau, and Óvalo de Santa Anita. The bus will drop you off at Parque Echenique, where you will need to use the buses heading to San Jerónimo de Surco. Once in the district, the only access route to the Ruins and Huanano waterfall is through a well-signposted pedestrian trail that leads to these great tourist attractions.

The Huanano Waterfall

The Huanano waterfall is a magnificent natural attraction in the district of San Jerónimo de Surco. As mentioned earlier, to get here, you need to take a hike from San Jerónimo de Surco, which takes about 45 minutes, an activity suitable for the whole family.

Visits to this waterfall are not only appealing to those who enjoy this attraction, but also to outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy activities such as trekking and rappelling. To embark on the adventure towards the waterfalls, there is a fee of S/. 2 soles per person, payable at an information booth where you also need to register.

Huanano has a free fall of over 30 meters. At the top, there is an excellent camping area known as Lomo Largo.

So, if you want to spend a weekend full of adventure, we recommend Huanano as one of the places to visit in Lima. In addition to experiencing one of the most incredible waterfalls in Peru, you can take advantage of this short trip outside the capital to visit the Toboganes de Songos and the Palakala waterfall.
