Description

Chilca is a coastal district located south of Lima, known for being a place for UFO sightings, it also has the famous healing lagoons. The most practiced adventure sports are sandboarding, surfing, and off-roading in 4x4 vehicles.

In Chilca there are impressive beaches, hills, and dunes, ideal for adventure tourism; there are also the aforementioned Salinas lagoons, which are said to cure some discomforts and illnesses.

Location

It is located at kilometer 64 of the Pan-American Highway South, in the province of Cañete.

Climate and Temperature

It has a temperate and desert climate, with an average annual maximum temperature of 25°C and a minimum of 16°C.

How to Get There

Public Transportation

It is recommended to take buses heading south at the Puente Atocongo stop, the fare costs between 4 to 6 soles.

Private Transportation

Take the Pan-American Highway South until you reach kilometer 62.5 where there is an entrance to Chilca.

Healing Lagoons of Las Salinas

Las Salinas is a resort located in Chilca, where you can find 3 famous lagoons, believed to have medicinal properties. They cure some dermatological, bone, hypertension, and infertility problems; these are the lagoons:

    • La Milagrosa: It is the largest, measuring 200 meters long by 50 meters wide. It contains a high level of mineral salts, such as iodine and sulfur. Visitors testify that its waters and mud cure asthma, bone pain, rheumatism, arthritis, varicose veins, etc.
    • La Mellicera: Located next to the Plaza de Armas of Las Salinas. Locals recommend its waters for genital infantilism, sterility, degenerative osteoarthritis, rickets, and ovarian diseases.
    • La Encantada: It is located on the way to Yaya Beach. The lagoon has many legends, one says that on full moon nights, a woman dressed in white appears next to the lagoon and wonderful music is heard. Regarding its healing properties, it is said that its waters prevent hair loss, diving into the lagoon brings a great sense of peace and tranquility, improves vision, and is a great remedy for migraines.
