Vinicunca - Rainbow Mountain
Description
The Mountain of 7 Colors, also known as Vinicunca, Rainbow Mountain, Cerro Colorado, or in English Rainbow Mountain, is one of the most impressive attractions on the way to the Apus Ausangate. This place has been named by the prestigious magazine National Geographic as one of the 100 places a person must see before they die.
Rainbow Mountain is an incredible place in the Andes mountain range, with a natural coloring produced by the large amount of sedimentary rocks in erosion. What is also impressive is how these rocks form, giving the mountain a rainbow-like appearance. The route to this place is a favorite among trekking enthusiasts.

Since ancient times, it has been considered a sacred mountain for spiritual retreat and a place where one can feel the energy of the Apus and renew with very positive energies. It is also said to be a place that offers a new opportunity for visitors.
Location
This mountain is located in the district of Vinicunca, province of Quispicanchi, belonging to the department of Cusco.
Climate and Temperature
It has a cold high Andean climate (Puna), with an average annual maximum temperature of 12°C and a minimum of 7°C. The area experiences intense rainfall, especially in the month of February.
Altitude
The maximum altitude of the mountain peak is 5000 meters above sea level.

How to Get to Vinicunca
You must take transportation from the center of the city of Cusco heading towards Pitumarca. The journey lasts just over 3 hours, and this town is where people usually stock up on food, water, etc. Then, you must go to the town of Ocefina (Chilca), which is the starting point for the 4-hour hike to the Mountain of Colors. The return trip is less intense and can be completed in just 2 hours.

There are a variety of tour agencies that offer the service of a tour for people to visit Vinicunca Mountain. Generally, the itinerary of these packages starts very early, with the pick-up of people to take them to the town of Pitumarka. Then, the hike to the increasingly popular Vinicunca Mountain is done. These tours usually take the whole day, concluding between 7 and 9 at night.
