The Colca Canyon is one of the main tourist destinations in Peru, with a length of 100 km. The name comes from the words Collaguas and Cabanas, ethnic groups that inhabited the river in the area. Among the adventure sports practiced in the valley are: trekking, canopy, rafting, climbing, and mountain biking.

In the valley, the main attraction is the Colca Canyon, the second deepest in the world; there are also lakes, waterfalls, hot springs, the Colca River, etc.
Being an extensive area, this place hosts a large variety of biomes such as: Pajonal, Tolar, Queñoal, etc. Regarding the fauna in the Colca Canyon, species like: deer, vicuñas, foxes, pumas, condors, eagles, snakes, among others, can be found.
Location
It is located 165 km northeast of Arequipa in the province of Caylloma.
Climate and Temperature
It has a dry climate, with an average temperature between 17 and 20°C, sunny days and cold nights throughout the year. Rainfall occurs between December and March.
Altitude
Between 3600 to 5700 meters above sea level.
How to Get There
You must reach the town of Chivay, which is 150 km from the city. There are various bus lines departing from the bus terminal, with a journey of approximately 3 hours to the Colca Valley. The fare ranges between 14 and 20 new soles.

Extra Note: The Condor Canyon
Condor, giant of flying birds and mythological symbol of the ancient civilizations of the Andes, is the most characteristic figure of the place, known as the owner of the Colca Canyon. It can reach a wingspan of 2.80 to 3.25 meters and weigh up to 15 kg. It dominates the great canyon. This bird has perfected its flight using air currents and feeds on dead animals.
