The Callejón de Conchucos is a set of valleys located on the eastern slope of the Cordillera Blanca, in the department of Ancash. These territories were inhabited by pre-Hispanic civilizations such as the Huaris, Pincos, Piscopampas, Conchucos, and the Chavín culture.

A place characterized by its calm and passive environment, where you can enjoy an incredible view, full of mountains and snow-capped peaks. It is worth mentioning that the villages that inhabit this area carry out their patronal and religious activities, for those who enjoy sharing these moments.

It is in the upper part of the Callejón de Conchucos where you can practice adventure sports with the best natural settings.

How to get to Callejón de Conchucos?
 

  1. First route

    First, we must depart from the city of Huaraz towards Qatac, this road will take us through Laguna Querococha and the Cahuish tunnel, the longest tunnel in Peru, with a length of 560 meters and located at 4516 meters above sea level. Finally, we begin the descent towards the eastern side of the Cordillera, to reach the town of Chavín de Huantar. 

  2. Second route 

    We start from Carhuaz, pass through Punta Olímpica and Chacas, cross the Huascarán National Park through its central part. This is one of the best experiences of the route, due to its beautiful landscapes, snow-capped peaks, and lakes that fill you with emotions. Finally, we arrive at Chavín de Huantar, on the eastern side of the Cordillera.

Climate in Callejón de Conchucos 


The climate is temperate, without extreme temperatures in the lower area of the Callejón, however, when ascending towards the Puna zone, frequent frosts occur between the months of May and June, in addition to rainy periods during the summer, that is, the months of December to March.
