Routes

The journey is not easy. It is a route for adventurers. First, the transfer is through a rough road, which is not in good condition. The land route: Satipo-Mazamari-Puerto Ocopa. Then? The boat trip with a motor to the native community of Betania, located on the left bank of the Tambo River, and the continuation through the jungle trail to the Samaireni River, ascending along its bank to the natural pool.

  • Distance

Hiking is from the village (Betania) walking through the forest, crossing rivers to finally reach the beautiful natural pools of the place.

  • Difficulty Level

What is the terrain like? It is flat and at a minimum altitude; however, due to the intense heat, the path can become challenging.

  • Travel Time

It will take you an hour of hiking from Satipo to the natural pools of Betania.

  • Season

It is known that the central jungle is unbearably hot; however, between April and September, the weather is warm: ideal for trekking. From December to the first months of the year, there are heavy rains. If you decide to travel under these conditions, the advantage is that there are fewer people and prices drop.

What to Bring (Equipment)

It is recommended that you bring:

  • Waterproof boots for trekking. Some agencies may suggest places to purchase them.
  • Do remember to use sunscreen.
  • Also, do not forget: sunglasses, swimwear, hiking shoes, and insect repellent.
  • Additionally, you should bring a tracksuit and long-sleeved shirts, nothing synthetic to avoid feeling suffocated by the high temperatures.
  • While you may like to wear shorts and short-sleeved shirts, this will only expose you to insects and plants that will make you uncomfortable during ecological tourism on the route.
  • Please do not forget to bring plenty of energy food, water, and a light lunch.

While there is lodging available for tourists, there are no official food places or hotels in the area.
