Laguna Tullpacocha is located at the foot of Quebrada Quilcayhuanca, in the district of Huaraz, department of Ancash, within the Callejón de Huaylas, belonging to the Cordillera Blanca. It reaches a maximum altitude of 4,350 meters above sea level.

Climate at Laguna Tullpacocha:

The climate throughout the valley remains cold, due to its region (Puna); during winter, frosts are common, and small blocks of ice form around the lagoon.

April - September: This is the best time to visit the lagoon, with June to August being the optimal period for trekking in the area.

October - March: It is not recommended as it is the frost season, making the journey a bit more challenging.

Trekking Route at Laguna Tullpacocha:

To embark on an excursion to Laguna Tullpacocha, head towards Pitec, which will take approximately 5 to 6 hours to reach. Begin the hike towards the Quilcayhuanca Valley; the route is very rewarding as it immerses you in nature, allowing you to observe the wildlife and flora in the area. Next, traverse various mountains, including Cayesh at 4,050 meters above sea level, and descend to 4,300 meters above sea level, where you will find Laguna Tullpacocha. For the descent, follow the same route towards the Quilcayhuanca gateway at 3,850 meters above sea level, and return to Huaraz.

Huaraz 3,100 meters above sea level - Quilcayhuanca Gateway 3,850 meters above sea level - Cayesh Crossing Camp 4,050 meters above sea level - Tulpacocha Lagoon 4,300 meters above sea level - Quilcahiuanca Gateway 3,850 meters above sea level - Return to Huaraz.
