The Huascarán is the fifth highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere and has the highest peak in the entire country at 6,768 meters above sea level, surpassing the height of Everest. It is located in the Peruvian Andes between Yungay and Carhuaz in the Ancash region.
Climate in Huascarán:
The climate in Huascarán is icy and dry with temperatures below 0°C.
November - March: It is the season of abundant rainfall.
May - October: This season is a dry season, and in the lower parts, there can be sunshine with temperatures around 15°C.
Route to reach Nevado Huascarán:
To climb the Nevado Huascarán, prior acclimatization is necessary, so it is advisable to do it at Laguna 69, which is at about 4,640 meters above sea level.
To reach Huascarán, you must depart from Huaraz towards Mancos, then head to Mushos to find natural transportation that can carry the equipment. Continue for about 6 or 5 hours and reach the base camp Huascarán to be able to climb the Moraine located at 4,700 meters above sea level. At that point, you will be walking on the Glaciar Raimondi until you reach Base Camp two, where we will climb for about six to seven hours. With a professional high mountain guide, we will have completed the summit climb of Nevado Huascarán at 6,768 meters above sea level. Finally, the return will be along the same route.
