📝 Route Description
The citadel of Machu Picchu offers us, apart from its interesting path, the opportunity to climb its sister mountain, Huayna Picchu. As a reward for practicing this extreme sport, at its summit you will find a breathtaking view of Cusco.

The Huayna Picchu is located at about 2,667 meters above sea level and is part of the eastern foothills of the Salcantay massif, in Cusco.
Rock climbing in Huayna Picchu is one of the less recommended but most practiced activities among tourists and visitors to the “Inca Citadel,” as the large mountains and rocky structures make this extreme sport possible. Additionally, there are many climbers seeking a bit more adrenaline, so they decide to embark on the adventure of mastering the mountain of Machu Picchu, which is located at an altitude of 3,350 meters above sea level.
The climate in Huayna Picchu
In this part of Cusco, a warm and humid climate is recorded during the day and cool at night. Temperatures range from 12° to 24°C. The area is generally rainy, especially between November and March.
April - October is the most recommended time to travel.
The route to reach Huayna Picchu
To reach the mountain, you need to first get to the city of Cusco and then take a train to Ollantaytambo and Piscacucho. The journey takes approximately an hour and a half.
The path to the top of Huayna Picchu starts by entering a very dense vegetation area. The trail is quite narrow and formed by a series of irregularly placed granite stone steps.
From there, you can appreciate Machu Picchu and it serves as a perfect backdrop for panoramic photographs of the Inca archaeological remains. Reaching its summit takes approximately an hour, and there you will find a series of terraces and buildings that acted as an observatory in the Inca period.
