Surco is considered the land of Lima's waterfalls due to its 5 waterfalls, and it also boasts nearly 22 archaeological sites. It borders San Mateo de Otao to the north, San Damián and San Andrés de Tupicocha to the south, San Bartolomé to the west, and Matucana to the east, all districts of the province of Huarochirí.
History
Its history dates back to the pre-Hispanic era when it was known as Huaranga Picoy and was part of a group of Ayllus. However, it was on September 23, 1711, when the district's extension was officially recognized, with its only settlement being Huaquicha, and from August 22, 1842, Songos and Ayas were included as part of San Jerónimo de Surco. This district was officially created by Regional Law 359 on September 15, 1920, during the government of President Augusto Leguía.
