The island was formerly used as a guano island, but this activity ceased due to the decrease in bird population. This allowed sea lions to take over the place, and currently there are more than 5,000 of them. In addition to this species, there are also birds, in smaller numbers, such as seagulls, pelicans, ducks, among others.
Location
It is located 6 miles from the port of Constitutional Province of Callao, belonging to the department of Lima.
Climate and Temperature
It has a temperate climate, with an annual maximum and minimum temperature of 23°C and 17°C, respectively.
How to get to the Palomino Islands
To reach the Palomino Islands, you must first go to the war dock at Grau Square, from where you must board a yacht that will take you to the island. The 6-mile journey takes approximately 1 and a half hours.

Tourism in the Palomino Islands
In recent years, tourism in the Palomino Islands has greatly increased, mainly due to the desire to see the large number of sea lions that inhabit the area. At the highest point of the island, there is an old lighthouse that used to guide ships passing by the beaches and port of Callao. On the island, you can also observe a water passage known as the Cathedral of the Palomino Islands.
As mentioned earlier, this place can be visited at any time of the year. The most exciting part of this tour is being able to swim and, in some cases, dive with the sea lions; for this, you must use the necessary safety equipment, as the sea water in Callao has low temperatures.
