Lares Valley

The Lares Valley is located between the eastern slope of the Andes and the northern area of the Urubamba Cordillera. This place has beautiful glacial lakes and warm subtropical ravines, as well as a great variety of vegetation and wildlife.

It is surrounded by a mountain range of the cordillera, where the snow-capped peaks of Verónica, Sawasiray, Pitusiray, and Chicón are located. Small Quechua-speaking farming communities live here, maintaining their customs of llama and alpaca herding, cultivation of tubers, and textile production.

Due to all the mentioned features, this valley offers a wide variety of tourist attractions. It is common for tourists to visit Lares to interact with local communities and learn more about their traditions. Additionally, it offers the opportunity to embark on one of the best trekking routes in Cusco.

Location

It is located in the province of Calca, in the department of Cusco.

Climate and Temperature

Between the months of May and October, the area has a sunny climate, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 21°C. From November to April, it is the rainy season.

Altitude

It sits at an altitude of 3,170 meters above sea level.

How to Get to Lares Valley

To reach Lares, there are two possible routes. The first one is Cusco - Pisaq - Calca - Lares, and the second one is Cusco - Chinchero - Urubamba - Calca - Lares. The road is in very good condition, but it still takes time to reach the destination. It is advisable to hire the services of an agency to reach the Lares Valley.
