Diving: discover the impressive underwater world in Northern Peru

Talking about the north of Peru is not only about commenting on the beauty of its beaches and its delicious gastronomy; it is also synonymous with diving. So, if you are thinking about practicing this adventure sport, you definitely have to make a stop in this region.

Privileged Zone

Some destinations in the north of our country are ideal for diving, due to the characteristics they present, such as the fact that they have both currents; both the northern one, that is tropical, warm waters, and of course the Humboldt current, which is cold waters. Therefore, the sea water temperature is completely comfortable for diving.

And not only that, but this privileged zone has an extraordinary sea richness: a thousand species of fish, both from warm and cold currents. This means that you will find colorful fish, just like the ones you find in the Caribbean! Such as gray fish. If you dive in this area of Peru, you can delight your eyes with sea turtles, seahorses, sea lions, and even whales.

Some diving spots in the north

  • El Ñuro

Where is it located? 6.6 kilometers from Órganos. El Ñuro is a fishing cove, a place where you will appreciate a whole colony of green turtles, a species that is in danger of extinction. When diving in this cove, you will see these turtles in their natural habitat. In this area, you can go down to a depth of 7 or 8 meters. If you are a beginner, then this place awaits you with open arms to practice this adventure sport.

  • Plataforma de Órganos

It is located 20 minutes away, where you have to take a boat from the Órganos dock to approach the Oil Platform, which is abandoned, and whose anchoring legs reach a depth of 70 meters. The foundations have given rise to this artificial reef for diving. But how? Well, coral, mollusks, and snails have grown in these parts of the platform. Perfect food for schools of fish. Here, if you decide to practice this adventure sport, but especially if you have extensive experience, you can go down to a depth of 30 meters. Also, you will receive the pleasant visit of sea lions, which usually come down when there are divers in this area.

  • Arrecifes de Punta Sal

In these reefs, you will swim among tropical fish, turtles, octopuses, and seahorses. An entire experience! Here, if you dive in this area, you can go down between 12 and 18 meters deep. So, if you are an intermediate diver, this is your ideal place to practice this fascinating adventure sport.

Venturing into this unknown but wonderful marine world makes diving an activity that allows you not only to surround yourself with different marine species, but also to appreciate how great and wise Mother Nature is, to live with her, to feel her, and to touch her.
