Huacapune Fortress

Adventure N 72 was carried out with my friend Dr. Raul Lucho Cerruti, 82 years old, who has been doing this activity weekly for the past 14 years; his endurance is truly admirable. We met at 07:00 at Echenique Park, so I had to leave my house at 05:30, in the darkness, but it was worth it. Puente Habich is located at 2,100 meters above sea level, at kilometer 69 of the Central Highway. The town of Ayas is situated at 2,634 meters. Huacapune is at 3,650 meters above sea level. The elevation gain was approximately 1,550 meters. Difficulty level: Moderate to Challenging. Time taken: 10 hours round trip. Distance covered: 14 km. We had decided to head to the Huacapune Fortress through the Ayas annex and climb up by the cemetery.
